During the summer months the island cats do very well getting food from tavernas and visitors. The problem comes during the winter when this food supply comes to an end. ASAP volunteers look after 12 feeding stations which are kept supplied with food and water as well as providing shelter.
Numbers of cats at each station vary from 3 to over 20. By having regular contact with the cats it means that it is easier to catch the animals for neutering or for any other treatment they might need. All stray neutered animals have an ear clipped so we can identify the unneutered ones.
It’s easy to help us with feeding – if you are on holiday on Alonnisos look for the special bins in local supermarkets where you can leave cat food. Or make a donation on line. Thank you!
