A.S.A.P.Alonnisos Society for Animal Protection. |
|
| The aims of the society are the promotion of respect for pets, stray animals and the natural environment, and raising public awareness of their care. It is the belief of the society that the following measures would be effective ways to achieve its aims, and to enhance the lives of animals on Alonnisos: - The provision of information on how to prevent cruelty to animals whether by neglect, abandonment, violence or the administration of noxious substances. - Caring for stray animals, in conjunction with the local council, by feeding or arranging adoption. - The instigation of a neutering program to maintain a healthy, controlled stray animal population. - The arrangement of regular visits by veterinary surgeons to care for sick or injured animals and to offer advice on their diet and general well being. The rendering of first aid to sick or injured animals until such time that veterinary attention can be arranged. There are numerous ways you can help us achieve our aims, and/or help raise funds. |
| IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, JOIN NOW!! Membership costs only €15.00 (euros) or approximately £13.50 a year, that's just over a pound a month! Please tell your friends and family about us and encourage them to join - spread the word! Contact Craig Sinclair, our membership secretary, via the 'Join ASAP' button above. Members can attend the Annual General Meeting and will be sent our Newsletter twice a year (you can read the most recent edition via the 'Newsletter' button above). DONATIONS - You can donate any amount in sterling or euros and you will receive an acknowledgement of your gift. Just Click the 'Donate' button above for details. DO YOU HAVE A STORY TO TELL? We would also like to produce an animal storybook, or series of short stories about cats, dogs or other animals, which have been helped or rescued on the island. Maybe you have been instrumental in helping an animal in some way, or maybe have a funny story to tell? The book will be aimed at adults and children. Please send e-mails or post to the addresses on the 'Contact' page. HELP US WHILE YOU SHOP - just pop a tin or two of cat or dog food into one of our collection bins outside the supermarkets. These are collected and then given to our volunteer animal feeding group, who feed the stray animals on a regular basis at various feeding stations throughout the island throughout the year. JOIN IN & HELP SUPPORT the various events that we plan to have during the forthcoming year. Unwanted gifts, etc. are always needed for raffles, tombolas, lucky dips and as prizes for the various fundraising events. See the Events Calendar page for more information and photos of some of the things we have done so far. VOLUNTEER! Fancy a holiday with a difference? If you are a veterinarian, we can arrange free accomodation on Alonnisos in exchange for veterinary work - contact Julia Browne for details. The charity is also always in need of help and assistance, whether to help catch stray cats and dogs to enable our visiting vet to examine and treat them, or perhaps help feed the strays at one of our feeding stations. HELP KEEP OUR STALL OPEN - Our charity stall only opens when we have volunteers, so help is always needed during the late mornings and evenings, or whenever people have a couple of hours to spare. As well as raising much needed funds, the stall is our main way of letting visitors to the island know about our activities, indeed even that we exist, so volunteers for the stall make a real difference! |
